Take My Hand

Are you troubled, burdened, blue?
Take my hand
I've been troubled, burdened, too
I understand
Where you've fallen, once I fell
Oh, I know these pitfalls well
Let me help the clouds dispel
Take my hand

Others helped when I was weak
Took my hand
Helped me face toward the peak
Helped me stand
What they did, now let me do
Pass that kindness on to you
Someday you'll help others, too
Take my hand

Take My Hand Backstory

Some times people say something about a behavior you have but have not thought about. That is a sure sign that it is valuable and should be part of anything you do. I had been in business for less that a year and my little team of sales people was growing. I was doing lots of meetings and taking prospective managers on training with me as often as possible. At the same time, my little family was still the priority. Jimmy wasn't in school yet and I was doing most of my work in the evenings when Norm was home. At other times, I tried to do as much as possible at home so I was there for Jimmy. Jodi and Jay were in school and I was always a room mother for one or the other. I loved having a flexible time business. Beside, I loved being involved at school. I didn't want to miss a minute of their lives.

One day I received a letter from Sylvia, who was one of my top sales people. In the envelope was a poem she said reminded her of what she saw happening on our team. The author was unknown, but I believe she was a woman and she knew what she was talking about. The name of the poem was, "Take My Hand",she captures the feminine style of leadership that has been part of life as far back as we women know. Whether it be a quilting circle, a group of women on the Oregon trail, women yesterday or today in a service clubs, trade associations, unions, or a family.
